Pipestone has one of Minnesota's largest historic districts with twenty beautiful Sioux quartzite buildings. All are listed on the National Historic Register. Quarrying of pipestone at the Pipestone National Monument appears to have begun as early as 1200 A.D, and is a tradition still alive today. Visitors are encouraged to watch live demonstrations of pipes and effigies being carved at the Cultural Center. Civil War Days is a celebration of our past in a beautiful
historic setting. Activities include
Infantry, Artillery, authentic Civil War battle and historic life
demonstrations. Next Pipestone Civil War Days are being scheduled for August 11-12, 2018. Enjoy a night at the Performing Arts Center. Entertainment
includes classic, country folk, and Community Theater. If shopping is your bag, Fort Pipestone and the numerous shops and boutiques offer interesting and unique gifts from antiques to accessories. Unlike most "visitor stops," Pipestone has not lost its charm or affordability. Pipestone has a lot to offer from Native American History to the latest in Wind Technology.
